Calling All Extra-Terrestrial Pt. 1

Robert Smithson is no ordinary man. No, in fact - he is definitely out there. And that’s a good thing. He of course is the artist responsible for the Spiral Jetty in the Great Salt Lake. The Jetty was created many years ago when the Salt Lake was very low - and was later covered up. It became visible again in 1999. Nuts…err… outer-space enthusiasts took this as a sign that this piece of art actually doubled as a communication piece with the distant solar systems, and its timing of re-emerging signified that in fact Utah would be the place of the coming of extra-terrestrial forms to Earth. Obviously this didn’t happen. But to commemorate this event - each year - thousands of Utahn’s flock to the Jetty on New Years Eve to send signals to the outer limits of space, signifying, “It’s ok to be late space people.”

    Wow, I like this one. I studied his work in Art History classes in college.

    Nice piece of work the salt crusted up on it and is the same as making a man-made reef,.. only he grew his out of salt.

    Cool aliens, and stupid people, now all you need to add is beer and you’re sure to have something happen.
